Søren Schou graduated in 1988 from School of Dentistry, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Finished postgraduate training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1999. The Ph.D.-thesis as well as Dr.Odont.-thesis focused upon pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of periimplantitis. Until 2002 employed full-time at Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, Univer¬sity of Copenhagen. During the past 5 years full-time consultant at Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Aalborg Hospital, Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. President of the Danish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and author of more than 50 articles focusing on oral and maxillofacial surgery and implant dentistry.

The clinical activity includes the entire field of oral and maxillofacial surgery including implant treatment of patients with congenitally missing teeth and treatment of periimplantitis. The present research activity involves experimental and clinical studies on bone regeneration, surgical treatment of periimplantitis, and implant treatment in patients with a history of periodontitis.
