The EAO Junior Committee gathered together in the summer of 2010 to share insights and ideas about the evolution of implant dentistry in 2030.
This exciting and innovative project was based on the concept of attracting 40 young active researchers and clinicians from different scientific backgrounds to share ideas and think about the goals that will drive the future of osseointegration.
Few of the young dentists knew each other beforehand and yet they took part in intense discussions and sessions on topics concerning their profession and the way it could change in the next 10 to 20 years. Four specific areas were analysed more in depth, depending on each one’s area of interest: Future Teaching and Education, Surgery In 2030, Prosthetics In 2030, and Futuristic Tissue Development.
The Junior Committee provided some interesting recommendations that could possibly change the field of implant dentistry in the near future and potentially initiate several collaborations. The scientific results, which were presented at the EAO Congress on October 2010, will be published in the Clinical Oral Implants Research Journal in the near future.
“This was a great opportunity for all participants to link to each other in a professional and friendly network, and could be the beginning of some future research collaboration. A virtual platform is in the process of being built for us to keep in touch and continue to work together with this intranet community”, said Isabella Rochietta, active member of the Junior Committee since 2007.
