EAO Congress - Copenhagen 1999EAO Annual Scientific Congress in Copenhagen/Denmark Implant Surfaces Great success for the 8th EAQ Annual Scientific Congress in Copenhagen April 16-17, 1999. 887 participant from 34 countries attended at the 8th EAO Annual Scientific Congress '99 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The meeting was organized in collaboration with the Danish Society for Oral Implantology and was chaired by EAO President Klaus Gotfredsen and DSOI President Jan Bjerg Andersen. They presented a 2-day program focusing on the topics Implant Surfaces and Single Tooth Implants. An outstanding panel of speakers provided a comprehensive overview on these subjects from both clinical and scientific perspectives. 50 papers were accepted for the EAO Research Competition and was published in Clinical Oral Implants Research 10:2 163-181. 5 of the accepted papers were selected to oral presentation and to participate in the EAO'99 Research Competition for the best oral presentation. The best oral presentation award was shared by two presenters: N. Lioubavina, The Netherlands and T. Lindh, Sweden. Among the 45 accepted poster presentations, A. Wennerberg, Sweden was selected as the winner in the Research Competition for best poster presentation. Some of the poster presentations were also presented orally in a parallel oral presentation session, Saturday, April 17, 1999. This session, too, was of a very high standard and with stimulating discussions in the audience. We would like to thank all the presenters for their great contribution to the success of the Congress. At the meeting, Sascha A. Jovanovic was officially inaugurated as the new EAO President and, in conjunction with the Dutch Society of Oral Implantology, he win organize the 9th EAO Scientific Congress in Amsterdam. The meeting will take place on September 14-16, 2000, and at the Copenhagen Congress Sasha outlined the very exciting proposals for the 9th, EAO meeting. Our industry partners, who supported the EAO as Gold Sponsors, also provided excellent preand postcongress courses for the participant. More than 400 participants attended these Gold Sponsor Courses offered by Astra Tech Dental, Friatec (now Friadent), 3i Implant Innovations, Nobel Biocare and Straumann.
