2009 Consensus Conference
The EAO organized its 2nd EAO Consensus Conference from February 19 to 22, 2009 in the Seedamm Center, close to Zurich, Switzerland.
It was a three-day meeting with a number of experts in the different fields related to osseointegrated dental implants. The financial support is given solely by the EAO and no industrial or other sponsorship is involved. This allowed for a strict science driven conference. This was also the basis for the selection of the participants by the scientific committee consisting of: John Hobkirk, Franck Renouard, Daniel Buser, Thomas Flemmig, Mariano Sanz, Georg Watzek, Friedrich Neukam, Marc Quirynen, Christoph Hämmerle.
The consensus conference participants were divided into 4 groups with the following titles:
Group 1: Ceramics in implant dentistry
Group 2: Biomechanics / risk management
Group 3: Tissue augmentation / esthetics
Group 4: Implant surfaces and designs
The groups were guided by chairmen and secretaries. Four rapporteurs in each group prepared review papers as a basis for the discussions within the groups. Each group produced a consensus report based on the information in the reviews and on the result of the discussion. After acceptance of the contents by all participants of the conference, the review papers and the consensus reports are being published in Clinical Oral Implants Research as the EAO Consensus 2009 and distributed during the EAO Annual Congress 2009.
